Thousands of aviation fans flocked to RAF Fairford during the week of July 11-18 as the Gloucestershire air base hosted the return of one of the world's largest air shows, the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), after two consecutive years of being cancelled due to COVID-19. No one has been more relieved to see the Tattoo revived than the CEO of the show, Paul Atherton. AIR International asked him what it felt like to see it back up and running, and what challenges they had faced during the pandemic. He said: "It has been an incredibly difficult three years following the two cancellations of RIAT 2020 and 2021. The second cancellation put us in a grey financial position and I don't think a lot of peopleunderstood or realised how close we came to the end of RIAT.
