MOZAMBIQUE this week was set to finally launch its heavily flagged but long delayed sixth licensing round, with the formal launch due on 25 November. This round was originally due to be launched in 2018, but was delayed for many reasons including commodity prices, legislation, industry interest, Covid-19 and Mozambican politics. The National Petroleum Institute (INP), which regulates upstream activities, has unveiled 16 licences, covering a total area of more than 92,000 square kilometres, that will be offered, Five of the licences are in the ultra gas rich Rovuma basin, seven in the Angoche basin-which is believed to be oil prone -plus two in the barely touched Zambezi Delta.
