When the Civil Aviation Authority published the latest report on its civil air display review following the Shoreham accident, it became clear that not only would many airshow organisers face additional burdens, but also the CAA itself. Measures such as the submission of enhanced risk assessments when applying for a flying display permission, accreditation of flying display directors, enhanced oversight of display authorisation evaluators and so forth, to say nothing of other work that remains ongoing, were obviously going to require the regulator to increase staffing levels in the relatively small section of its general aviation department that deals with air displays.
