With the aim of increasing its solar cell output, Mitsubishi Electric Corp. will build a new building for photovoltaic (PV) cell production. The new building, which will be called the PV Cell Plant #2, will rise at the company's Nakatsugawa Works lida Factory in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.The new plant will be a five-story concrete building with a building area of 5,710sq.m. It will have a total floor area of about 24,000sq.m. Completion is slated for December 2009 and operation is planned to begin in spring of 2010.Mitsubishi Electric will invest ¥50 billion (US$550 million) in the plant, which covers the manufacturing equipment as well. The company plans to expand its annual production capacity of PV cells to 600MW in 2011, which triples the present production of 220MW. The increased production capacity aims to meet the rapidly growing global demand for PV cells.
