On 4 August 2020, I took a suction sample from a horse paddock on private land near Eccles, Kent (TQ76, VC 15). In late November, while working through the sample, I found three specimens of Corticarina mimita (Fabricius) contrasting with a single Corticarina specimen which was similar in having the transverse pronotum of C. minuta but appearing a little smaller and clearly paler. Thinking it may be C. carta (Wollaston), though I had never found C. curta away from the coast, I dissected the specimen (a male). It was quickly apparent that this was not one of the known British species and reference to Rücker's (2018) monograph of the Western Palaearctic fauna revealed it to be C. cavicollis (Mannerheim, 1844). This identification was confirmed by Wolfgang Rücker from photographs (Figs, la, b).
