HSE chair Judith Hackitt has made some barbed comments about what she has described as a "burgeoning" health and safety profession, arguing there are too many people in the business, some of whom make a living from over-interpreting the law. She expressed her views in an interview with Quentin Letts on BBC Radio 4 in August. The programme, which examined the role of RoSPA, was part of a series called What's the Point of...? Letts asked Hackitt whether safety had become "over-professionalised" and whether this helped promote myths.
