People living with cancer often lose an excessive amount of weight rapidly, accompanied by a loss of appetite. These symptoms affect 80% of cancer patients. We call this the anorexia-cachexia syndrome (ACS). It is important to recognize ACS because it causes both physical and emotional distress, poor quality of life, and increased mortality. ACS is the name given to a group of symptoms including: Unintentional weight loss and wasting of body tissues (cachexia) Decreased appetite (anorexia) Weakness
