AbstractOn 13 September 1991 Micturin® (terodiline hydrochloride), was temporarily withdrawn worldwide after the discovery of an association with serious cardiac arrhythmias, notably a rare form of ventricular tachycardia known as torsades de pointe. This paper describes the events and actions leading up to the withdrawal and discusses the reasoning behind it
