In 1998, IFS Designatelier GmbH, Berlin ,received an order forperforming a project study to investigate future-orientedopssibilities of the double-deck concept, to find innovativesolutions and to present an example of these solutions for theoperating conditions of Deutsche Bahn AG. The work focused on theproblem associated with access and steps, accommodation of baggage,lighting modular fittings and the car transition areas. A largenumber of the new ideas was implemented for the first time in theform of a mock-up of a 12 meter long vehicle section which wasexhibited at the lnno Trans'98. The paper describes the marginalconditions, the development goals and the results achieved.
