The Argentine seed genetics business, Grupo Don Mario’s (GDM – Buenos Aires), deal to takeover Brazilian seed company Biotrigo Genetica (Passo Fundo) has reportedly received the green light in Brazil. The competition authority, the Cade, was due to consider the agreed acquisition last week. Brazilian media report the Cade analysis “did not identify any horizontal or vertical overlaps between the companies’ markets” Therefore, it concluded that the takeover would not involve any further market concentration. This was largely down to the buying company operating on corn (maize) and soybean markets, while the company agreeing to be purchased operates in wheat markets. The acquisition would only involve a change of owner and no more in-depth analysis is required, reports note.
