Norway’s Equinor announced Oct. 12 additional delays to two major oil projects, the flagship Barents Sea Castberg project and the troubled redevelopment of the Njord field, along with other knock-on effects. In a statement coinciding with a new national budget, the state- controlled company said Johan Castberg would not come on stream until the fourth quarter 2024, the field originally having been due on stream in 2022 and already subject to an earlier holdup. Equinor said the project had been set back by pandemic restrictions at construction yards in Singapore and Norway, and problems with welding quality at the Singapore yard. Pandemic restrictions continue to hamper progress in Singapore, it added.
