摘要

Expectations can be as spurious as memories. Perhaps it was because STYX was playing in what I assumed was a theatre that I expected a play, although it transpired that the Streatham Space Project, which was set up in 2018 by a team of arts professionals based in south London, is a performing arts venue hosting comedy and music as well as theatre. As I walked into the auditorium, darkened except for lightbulbs dimly glowing above the heads of each of the seven people on stage, a wave of beautifully atmospheric music washed over the room. The musicians filled the stage—a drummer, two saxophonists, several guitar players, and a sound artist—along with a range of intriguing equipment. I'm not sure why the idea of a play had burrowed into my mind, but suddenly the musicians stopped playing and one of them began speaking.
