Involving Indigenous People In the Development of Hydropower

During the late 1990s, Canadian utility Hydro-Quebec changed its way of doing business with indigenous peoples: new hydroelectric projects would not be developed without support from local communities. This policy change has resulted in a partnership between Hydro-Quebec and the Cree Nation of Mistissini in development of the 1,280-MW Eastmain 1 project.
