Plantations provide the silver-lining to our agriculture, with high levels of productivity, employment and foreign exchange earnings, apart from their catalysing contributions towards rural growth. Being a labour-intensive enterprise applying modem technology and management, plantations make the optimum use of the marginal land resources that concentrated in remote hilly areas. South India has a prestigious place in the national plantation map as almost the sole producer of coffee, rubber, and cardamom as well as accounting for about a quarter of the national tea output.
