A possible strategy for municipal solid waste management in Greece

Solid waste management in Greece has reacheda turning point. Unsatisfactory waste management practice,aggravated by public opposition, increasing waste volumesand high rates for the consumer, have come to a point atwhich changes have to he made. On the other hand, EuropeanUnion policies are putting pressure for new waste methodsto he followed, as far as legal and financial matters areconcerned. The implementation and enforcement of wastemanagement changes causes great difficulties. It is theaim of this paper to state clear targets that localgovernments in Greece could use to respond to theinevitable changes coming in the near future.
