The care needs of people with dementia are complex and vary with type of dementia, personal circumstances and preferences, and disease stage. In general, care has improved over the past few decades, with better recognition of dementia as distinct from normal ageing and reduced use of harmful practices. But two new reports-from the Alzheimer's Association and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM)-have shed light on the pressures that people living with dementia and those caring for them still face in the USA, on disparities in care, and on weaknesses in the evidence to support interventions.
