YUKIHIKO HARA Born 1943 in Japan. Received undergraduate training in agricultural biological chemistry at the University of Tokyo. He joined Mitsui Norin Company, Ltd., in 1967 and has been the director of the firm's Food Research Laboratories since 1983. He has pioneered in the f ractionation and purification of tea polyphenols on a large scale and has been conducting research in various systems to prove their physiological functions, which range from antitumor to antimicrobial actions. He earned aPh.D. from the University of Lokyo in 1990 for his study on the "Physiological Activities of Tea Polyphenols." Dr. Hara has published nearly 20 papers on this subject and more than that number of articles on related subjects, as well as many co-authoredpapers. He is currently working on wider application of tea polyphenols as physiological functional food additives.
