摘要

General practice will no doubt change beyond recognition in the next couple of decades with the relentless march of technology. There will be more tools that enhance the capabilities of GPs, but there will, inevitably, be talk about GPs becoming redundant. Artificial intelligence (AI), already performing as well as us in the MRCGP exam, will begin to take over some of our work. But don't feel threatened. In my opinion the future of general practice is very bright. I will explain my reasons for believing this. First, let's debunk the threat posed by AI to general practice and GPs. It will no doubt slowly take over some aspects of our current role as doctors, as it will for many other professionals, from law to accountancy. However, this transition is going to be interesting. We have been told that our role as GPs is already under threat from the AI program developed by Babylon. However, just because it can pass an exam does not mean it can interact with humans in the real world. There are obvious reasons fSV this- Human language and psyche are more complex than the straightforward questions asked in an exam. Medical students would be CCT'd (Certificate of Completion of Training) immediately after finals if this were not the case. As a medical student, how many times have you thought: 'Why are you telling the consultant that when you didn't tell me?'
