While visiting Scotland,Tony Allen and I stopped at Tombain,East Inverness,NH863064,on 15 September 2019 as we were on our way down to Glen Feshie.By the side of the road was an old, dead birch Betula tree trunk that was bedecked with rather large fungal sporophores (Fig.1).Sieving some of the material revealed a variety of Staphylinidae and some other families, but most obvious running around on the tray were several specimens of Lordithon lunulatus (Linnaeus).Among them was a single, rather larger individual which was pooted up hastily. My thought at the time was that this might be Lordithon speciosus (Erichson),but I had to wait until I returned home in order to confirm its identity as a male L.speciosus.
