Sargassum pallidum was described firstly based on the specimen collected in the sea around Japan in 1800s. This species is characterized by:1)discoid holdfast and long stem arising from center of holdfast; 2) non-branching stem; 3) main branch occurs from both side of the stem; 4) thallus length is over 1 m in many cases; 4) very thin lanceolate leaves with dentate margin; 5) the shape of vesicle is spherical to ovate and 6) dioecious receptacles have non-branching club shaped. This seaweed is specifically distributed in the central part of the Sea of Japan. In the future, it will be necessary to examine whether this species is an independent species by comparing it with morphologically similar species such as S. confusum.
