On July 27,1947, a trio of Avro Lancasters carrying the serials ED906, ED909 and ED932 were officially struck off charge by the Royal Air Force and handed over to the scrapmen at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire. While to many they looked like your typical war-weary 'Lancs', the aircraft were in fact Dambuster veteran Type 464 Provisioning Lancaster Mk.Ⅲ Specials - ED906 had been flown by Fit Lt David Maltby and crew as AJ-J J-for-Johnny, ED909 as AJ-P P-for-Popsie by Flt Lt Harold 'Mick' Martin and ED932 as AJ-G C-for-Ceorge by the one and only Wg Cdr Guy Gibson who led the audacious raid against the German dams (the Mohne, Eder and Sorpe) on May16/17, 1943. Coincidentally, 'AJG' were the initials of Gibson's father - Alexander James Gibson.
