It's taken over two centuries but Kew Gardens is once more guarded by dragons - borne out of a combination of historical research, craft and technology. LONDON'S KEW GARDENS was a Royal pleasure ground in Georgian times. A tour of Europe, later expanded to the world, was represented by 19 buildings, many made of wood and canvas. "The original buildings were very ephemeral," says Craig Hatto, project director, Historic Royal Palaces (HRP). "Essentially it was garden architecture and very experimental."
