Capital grant funding from WRAP has been awarded to two companies under an open competition to increase the UK's use of recycled and secondary aggregates. The grants, totalling over £100,000, have been awarded to RMC Aggregates (North West) Ltd and Brett Aggregates Ltd after both companies submitted proposals to use recycled and secondary aggregates in the production of asphalt. RMC have been awarded £52,950 for a project to use glass cullet at their Dove Holes Quarry asphalt plant in Buxton, Derbyshire. Introduced by the company in July 2000, Glasphalt is a base- and binder-course asphalt mix incorporating up to 30% crushed recycled glass. The WRAP grant covers the construction of an additional hopper, feeder and conveyor system, and the plant will use at least 4,300 tonnes/year of pre-crushed, mixed-colour glass cullet.
