Bristol Scout C reproduction '1264'/G-FDHB, which flew for the first time at Bicester in July 2015 (see the September Aeroplane), is going back to the original 1264's last operational airfield to commemorate the centenary of its opening. On 31 May 1916 that Scout, piloted by 'Bunnie' Bremner, was the first aeroplane to land successfully at Prinos aerodrome on the island of Thassos, close to the current Greek-Bulgarian border. On 25-26June this year, in conjunction with the Kayala AirSea Show on the mainland, 'Bunnie's' grandson David Bremner is hoping to fly the 'new' 1264 from the very same spot as his grandfather. The Greek military authorities have made this an official celebration of the centenary of the beginnings of Hellenic military aviation, and the site will be cleared and prepared in time for the hills of Thassos to echo once more to the sound of an 80hp Le Rhone engine.
