In 1995, the editors - Max-Planck Institut fur Eisenfoschung and Steel Institute VDEh at that time -decided to initiate an award for the best publication in Steel Research. Every January since then, the Editorial Board has to go through a difficult selection process choosing the best publication of the last year. From all papers published in 2008, the council opted for a contribution titled: "Twinning Models in Self-Consistent Texture Simulations of TWIP Steels". It was published in Steel Research Int., 79 (2008), no. 8, pp. 645-651. It was written by four researchers working at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials (IWM) in Freiburg, Germany: Aruna Prakash, Dr. Thomas Hochrainer, Eduard Reisacher and Prof. Hermann Riedel.
