During nearly a half century as a cephalopod researcher beginning as a graduate student at Hokkaido University and continuing to today as a marine invertebrate researcher at the National Museum of Nature and Science, I have named 15 species of cephalopods in 10 genera and 6 families that occur in and around Japan. Brief stories are given about each species as well as some unforgettable mentors and co-authors. In this final issue of "Aquabiology", I also praise the journal for educating young scientists about various marine organisms through serial lectures offered by professional researchers.
