Thanks to the extensive propaganda amplification of the 1943 Ruhr dams raid by No 617 Squadron, the concept of the 'bouncing bomb,' codenamed Upkeep, is extremely well-known. A similar weapon, codenamed Highball, was developed in parallel.Highball and Upkeep were designed to be dropped in a similar manner to an aerial torpedo, but to travel above the water by skipping across the surface, strike the target, sink and then detonate. Unlike Upkeep, Highball was intended to attack ships, although other targets were later tested.
