Occupational health professionals are concerned with the effects of work on health and of ill health on ability to work. Since the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) moved to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in 2002 there has been a perfect opportunity to bring government responsibility for these two areas together. The department with a clear incentive to help people return to work is also responsible for good conditions at work.
