Being a naval architect and an ocean engineer, I have always searched for ways to adapt the design and manufacturing of offshore structures in Turkey. Although the shipbuilding industry in Turkey has had success for a number of years, the sector has designed and manufactured only a handful of off-shore structures and special purpose vessels. In 2005,I established Poseidon Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Co. to design mostly yachts and pleasure craft. However, when the yacht and pleasure craft market started to enter a bottleneck due to the global crisis that started in 2008, our team at Poseidon started focusing on new markets worldwide. We concluded that the demand for workboats, special purpose barges, and vessels for marine construction projects are rarely affected by that type of crisis. So we reorganized and began developing new conceptual designs of jack-up barges and special purpose barges. We aimed to be the first to design jack-up structures in our country and in our region and to become a brand that can carry out international projects.
