A bulk liquids storage terminal may appear to consist of static tanks and miles of pipework but that does not mean that it cannot be responsive to the needs of local industry, as Simon Storage's Seal Sands site illustrates. Watching the terns dipping for sand eels at the mouth of the river Tees or the seals basking on the sands that give the area its name, it is hard to imagine that one of the UK's largest concentrations of chemical production capacity is just a few kilometres away and that the terminalling and storage facilities that serve this industry lie cheek-by-jowl with this teeming wildlife. Seal Sands is home to numerous storage facilities and processing units, including the 206,000 m~3 Simon Storage facility, the only one of Simon's UK terminal network not jointly owned with Van Ommeren.
