Cold weather lifts demand

Crude prices rose as colder weather in the US and Europe boosted heating oil demand, while middle distillate output fell, eating into swollen oil inventories. US light sweet benchmark WTI rose by $2.11/bl to $72.65/bl in the week to 17 December, while Atlantic basin marker North Sea Dated was up by 740/bl to $71.64/bl.
