The US says distilled condensate can be exported as freely as other products, opening up the potential for more light oil feedstocks to reach world markets. The Commerce Department’s guidance means producers interested in exporting ultra-light output do not have to seek the exemptions and approval needed to export crude. The department’s Bureau of Industry and Security will look for the condensate to be made chemically distinct from the raw feedstock before it can be loaded for overseas sales. Condensate must undergo a process that results in a product with a different gravity to the starting feedstock. And it must have a recognised use in petrochemical production, fuel blending or other industries.
