Micro-hydro significant contributor as Uzbekistan’s hydropower capacity exceeds 2,000 MW

Uzbekistan last year implemented 27 hydropower investment projects worth $500mn, according to government statistics. The Central Asia country thus saw its?hydropower capacity in the?Uzbekhydroenergo system?exceed?2,000 MW. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on January 19 called for a ramping up of this figure. Among projects to be commissioned in Uzbekistan this year are seven hydro and 10 micro-hydro plants with an overall capacity of 197 MW. In addition, work to implement eight prospective projects and construct 50 micro-hydro?plants with a capacity of 438MW are set to commence.
