Albania’s electricity production dropped sharply in 2022

There was a significant decrease in available electricity in Albania in 2022. Net domestic production of electric power in 2022 was only 7,003 GWh, a decrease of 21.9% from the 8,963 GWh produced in the previous year, data from statistics office Instat showed. Albania produces almost all of its electricity from hydropower and the sector was badly affected by the low rainfall in 2022. This forced Albania to rely on imports at a time during which prices were soaring following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
