The European Commission has decided not to grant “basic substance” approval to black soap E470a for use as an insecticide on several crops and ornamentals, and as a fungicide on vegetables and ornamental plant crops. The application data were insuicient to demonstrate that the active ingredient met the strict safety criteria for basic substances, it says.
