EU warns use reduction inseparable part of NGT proposal

The European Commission has countered recent opposition from the conservative European People's Party (EPP) group for its Green Deal initiative, which includes targets for pesticide use reduction under the EU's Farm to Fork Strategy. The EPP is the largest single bloc in the European Parliament. Commission vice-president Frans Timmermans told the European Parliament's agriculture committee that the highly-anticipated proposal on new genomic techniques (NGTs) was an “inseparable” part of the Green Deal package. He stressed that the Commission would not be coming with another proposal, remarking that the proposals are not an “à la carte menu to pick and choose from”.
