Syngenta to limit sale of lambda-cyhalothrin products in Canada

Syngenta Canada is to release limited quantities of its lambda-cyhalothrin-based insecticides,Matador 120EC and Voliam Xpress(also includes chlorantraniliprole),in the country this year for use on horticulture and pulse crops.It notes that the move aligns with a decision from the Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency(PMRA)to cancel several uses of lambda-cyhalothrin-based products.A synthetic pyrethroid insecticide,lambda-cyhalothrin is registered in Canada for use against a broad range of pests affecting greenhouse food crops,terrestrial food and feed crops,shelterbelts,turf,structural sites,and ornamentals.In its final re-evaluation decision involving the active ingredient in 2021,the PMRA cancelled many of its uses over human health concerns.These included a ban on derived products for feed purposes,as well as cancellation of application on lettuces,mustard seeds(condiment and oilseed type),bulb vegetables,oilseeds(except for flax)and rapeseed(including canola),besides certain commodities.
