Brazil 2022 review: Brazil moves onto verge of faster agchem approval system

Brazil moved within a single Senate vote of overhauling its agrochemical law last year. The government issued a decree in late 2021 to amend the system for registering agrochemicals in Brazil. Decree No 10.833 would replace Decree 4.074 of 2002 that regulates Law 7802 of 1989, altering rules, on research, registration, use, import and export of agrochemicals. Parliamentary bills passed a full vote in the lower house of Parliament Chamber of Deputies last year and were subsequently accepted with amendments by cross-party Senators of the agriculture select committee, despite some strong opposition. That left only a plenary vote of the Senate to conrm the new regime.
