Colombia to phase out chlorpyrifos

The Colombian Ministry of Agriculture’s agriculture and livestock agency, the ICA, is seeking a phase-out of the organophosphate insecticide, chlorpyrifos. The move follows a Constitutional Court-issued verdict (T-343/22) determining the need to protect “the fundamental right to health of children in Colombia” with orders for suspension on the use and marketing of chlorpyrifos. However, the agency is requesting an extended phase out period from the Court.
