A number of coffee industry groups have asked FDA to include coffee in its new, updated definition of “healthy.” As FDA considers modernizing the definition of “healthy,” the agency should take into account new studies linking coffee intake to multiple health benefits─from extended lifespan to reduced risk of Type 2 diabetes and obesity and even lower risk of certain cancers, said coffee industry advocates The benefits of drinking unsweetened coffee have been recognized by multiple global health organizations, and in research that informed the previous, 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which linked coffee intake to reduced risk of death from any cause, including from cardiovascular disease.
