EDITORIAL

摘要

South Asia is a fascinating region for those interested in its offerings in terms of languages, cultures and indeed, politics. However, rarely has the region served as a frame or as a space to study media in general and media policies in particular. This Special Issue is an effort in catering to the latter, and in doing so, contributing to making sense of the former. Media policies and policy-making in South Asia have not garnered much attention in academia, both within and outside the region, in comparison to other sub-disciplines in communication and media studies. Media policy studies in itself is nascent in South Asia, marked by the very few number of academic programmes or papers being offered in university settings in the region. As such, this Special Issue is the first such attempt in bringing together scholars working on varied facets of media policies and policy-making on the countries that make up modern-day South Asia.
