EUROPEAN SUPPLY TRENDS

Eurofer, the Federation of European Steelmakers, recently issued a bullish report about the prospects for the EU industry in the near term. This contrasts with our forecasts in the latest issue of World Steel Outlook in certain key aspects of the market.In the report, Eurofer predicts real consumption in 2001 rising by 3.1 percent compared to the previous year. Crude steel production is foreseen to be one percent up year on year. The report indicates exports expanding by 15 percent and imports decreasing by a similar amount.
