FORUM: IS GIS CHANGING HISTORICAL SCHOLARSHIP?

Historical GIS (HGIS) is booming. The evidence for this growth is clear and growing. Numbers of sessions at major conferences, specialist conferences and workshops, journal articles, book chapters, special editions of journals, and monographs all show that HGIS is now part of scholarship in ways unknown a decade ago. What is not clear is whether this activity is changing historical scholarship and, if so, how? In this forum, three scholars from different backgrounds offer their perspective on this question.
