From grease to kilowatts - Gresham's road to energy net zero

Gresham, Oregon is a progressive community located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, ranking as the fourth largest city in Oregon and the second largest in the Portland metropolitan area. Over the last thirty years, Gresham has grown from a rural farming community to a burgeoning urban area that provides a high quality of life for its residents and businesses. In an effort to maintain sustainable growth, the city developed a Sustainability Policy in 2009 that identified five key goals. These goals included reducing greenhouse gas emissions by eighty percent by 2050, reaching 100 percent renewable energy by 2030, achieving zero waste for municipal operations by 2020, protecting natural resources, and reducing and eventually limiting toxins.
