The thyroid gland controls the metabolic rate of many organs andtissues. Underactivity and overactivity of thyroid function representthe commonest endocrine problems, have widespread manifestations, andoften require long term treatment. Therefore, all practisingclinicians have to be aware of thyroid physiology and theconsequences of dysthyroidism.
