Simec to double long steel capacity at Brazil mill

Mexican steelmaker Grupo Simec will invest $300 million to double long steel capacity at its Pindamonhangaba mill in Brazil’s southeastern state of S?o Paulo, the municipality of Pindamonhangaba announced on Thursday May 27. By installing a new electric-arc furnace at the site, Simec intends to increase crude steel capacity to 1 million tonnes per year, from 500,000 tpy currently. Scrap recycling capacity will grow to 1.25 million tpy, from 625,000 tpy, the municipality added.
