Gazprom hopes for a home-grown fleet

Russian energy group Gazprom is aiming to place the bulk of its large-scale, long-term newbuild programme with domestic yards and has advocated increasing and improving shipyard production and engineering capacity so as to realise that objective. The enterprise is keen to develop hydrocarbon resources on Russia's 5M km~2 continental shelf, and has identified offshore areas in the Barents, Kara and Pechora seas, Ob Bay and Taz Bay, the Caspian Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk, as the most promising. The Arctic region holds the greatest exploitable reserves, with gas and condensate prevailing in the Barents Sea and Kara Sea, and with oil predominating in the Pechora Sea.
