EFFECTIVE communication with clients is just as important as the physical examination, as is the ocular assessment of your patient while in the consult room.Ask open-ended questions to gain a thorough history before you have physically examined your patient (Jones, 2016). Asking if any changes have been made to routines is a good foundation - specifically changes in the pet's demeanour. Is the patient less playful? Withdrawn? Sleeping more?Feeding behaviours include favouring one side of the mouth, not being able to chew correctly, drooling or anorexia, grooming and coat condition, the presence of halitosis and unexplained weight loss, among other things (Kirby and Miller, 2019).
