US goes its own way

The new US regulations on ballast water management and regular removal of hull fouling came into force in June this year. Under it all ships intending to discharge ballast are required to use an approved treatment system, meeting the US discharge standard equal to the IMO D-2 standard. New ships delivered after 1 December 2013 with any ballast capacity will have to be compliant immediately upon delivery.
