It is easy to understand why some ocean carriers find it difficult working I with NVOCCs. They believe that as they have their own sales force dedicated to maintaining direct contact with importers and exporters, any middleman that muscles in on this relationship must be an intruder or trespasser. Moreover, they claim that as they take all the investment risk associated with the provision of expensive ships, container equipment, customer facing IT systems, and a sales force geared to satisfying importers' and exporters' requirements, whilst NVOCCs invest in nothing, why should they share the spoils with anyone - especially agents that may assess carriers only via price instead of service quality?
